Beginners Kit

You want to start wearing makeup but you’re so shocked by how expensive it is, well don’t be so glum because I’m here to share with you some affordable products that you can get. Obviously it is great to have your Bobbi Brown, your Revlon, your Clarins and so forth but you can definitely have a beat face with these products.

When I first started buying makeup the brand Essence was my go to because they are so affordable! So foundation wise the Essence soft touch mousse was my first foundation. I didn’t want something that would looked like I was wearing makeup so this product looks like skin, it’s lightweight and it has a matt finish. The mousse is very easy to blend and you only need a little to get full coverage which is great! It stays on the whole day without fading and it does not oxidise which is when the foundation changes colour. It really does give you a flawless finish and it does not smell odd. It’s packaging fits perfectly anywhere so it’s easy to travel with. Just like how we are all different what works on my skin may not work for you, I have combination skin but it’s definitely worth the try. More essence products that I still use as well are the eyeliner pen and the mascara. The eyeliner pen is liquid and it has a fine tip for a more precise line, it is long lasting, it does not smudge and it’s very black. I also love it because it does not dry out quickly. Essence has a range of eyeliner pens so it’s really nice to have options. Now which girl doesn’t like long lashes? Therefore mascara is a must have. I personally don’t like waterproof mascaras because they are a bit hard to remove hence why they are waterproof. I also prefer mascara which gives me a lot of volume, length and thickness and this does the job.

The purple thing is called a beauty blender and these are a must have as well. They are very useful when it comes to blending foundation leaving no harsh lines but getting even distribution, it is best to use when it is a bit damp. It is nice and small so it fits anywhere and it is very easy to clean, just use warm water and liquid soap, while cleaning it just be careful not to be too rough as the sponge can tear then you just leave it out at room temperature to dry. The next beauty brand that I absolutely love and I am so glad that I discovered is L.A Girl. The L.A Girl pro concealer comes in may different shades, some to colour correct and some to highlight and contour. To highlight you need to get a shade that is 2 shades lighter than your skin tone and to contour a dark shade. It also works well as a base for eyeshadow so that the eyeshadow applies smoothly, you can simply apply it with a brush or your fingertip and then you blend it out with a beauty blender. The only thing that sucks about concealer is that it creases so it is important to prevent that with loose powder. Another L.A Girl product that I have is the Nudes beauty brick eyeshadow palette, my very first eyeshadow palette which I absolutely love. This palette has rosy neutrals which are so beautiful. There are 3 matte shades and 9 shimmery shades, it also comes with a mirror and a two-sided brush. These shades are very pigmented and they are so versatile to go from a day out look to a glam night out look. This palette is so affordable and definitely worth the purchase for someone who is looking to start somewhere.

Lastly what is a makeup look with a highlight, I got that shimmery powder from Mica Beauty Cosmetics a long time ago and before I bought it I was told that it can be used in a number of ways, as an eyeshadow, as a lip product and as nail polish. I never really used this product when I got it til highlighting became a trend so I was happy that I had it. It is so pigmented and applies so well and makes your skin look luminous and radiant. Essence is available at Clicks, L.A Girl is available at Dis-Chem as well as the beauty blender and the shimmer powder which I got from the Liberty Mall in PMB while the shop was still available but you can get it online

Hello Yinhle. I’m glad you found this post helpful. Well beginners are usually scared of colour so to start off I would recommend a nude colour or a soft pink ☺
