You want to get rid of dull, tired looking skin? Well I have the answer and it is EXFOLIATE. Exfoliating is using scrubs to remove dead skin cells or performing it chemically by using acids that remove the dead skin cells by dissolving them (this has to be done by a professional). I never used to exfoliate because my skin is sensitive and I never wanted to risk trying out a product only to find out that it doesn’t like my skin and on top of that wasting money. One day while I was shopping at Dis-Chem I came across an exfoliating face scrub that was very affordable, Fennel Coconut Scrub, and I decided to be brave and give it a try. This is a mild exfoliator and it is suitable for all skin types. This scrub contains micro-beads that gently remove the dead skin cells. The coconut and Jojoba oil that it contains aids in moisturising the skin. The way in which to use it is that you must start off by wetting your face and neck then applying a small amount and massage the scrub using your finger tips in circular motion, once that is done simply rinse your face with lukewarm water and then PAT dry with a clean towel. I began using it once a week but now I use it everyday and apparently if you have oily skin, using it everyday won’t irritate your skin. I love this scrub, especially the smell. I love how it doesn’t leave my skin completely dry but rather smooth and well cleansed. To elaborate further on exfoliating here are 5 benefits of exfoliating:
1. It makes your skin smoother
It eliminates old skin cells that are a dead layer on the skin’s surface therefore bringing out the new skin cells.
2. It stops breakouts
Exfoliating unclogs your pores. In our pores there is oil that is trapped underneath our skin’s surface which then leads to acne breakouts due to the build up. However you need to be careful as inflammation on acne can irritate the acne and make it worse.
3. It’s great for skin tone
The dead skin cells that form on our skin can cause uneven skin tone due to the build up of dirt therefore exfoliating will give cleanse the surface of the skin and give it that radiant glow.
4. It helps skin care products to be more effective
By getting rid of the dead skin, whatever moisturiser that you use after will penetrate deeper therefore allowing it to work more effectively.
5. It delays ageing
As you get older the skin’s ability to naturally shed old skin cells becomes slower therefore prevent early ageing and get a more youthful appearance.
